The original structure, Fowler Methodist Episcopal Church, was designed by architect Warren H. Hayes in 1894. Later additions were made in 1906 and 1918 by Harry W. Jones, the son of a Baptist clergyman, was born in Schoolcraft, Michigan on June 9, 1859. He attended Brown University for two years, then transferred to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and graduated from MIT in 1882. He came to Minneapolis in 1883, where he established an architectural practice in which he remained for the rest of his career. The Scottish Rite Temple is a large stone and brick structure that began as Fowler Methodist Episcopal Church, designed by Warren H. Hayes in 1894.
